Flygt keeps Denby Pottery in good shape

Fluid handling and pump specialist ITT Flygt is helping Denby Pottery improve the efficiency of its waste water management – and providing a critical service exchange facility for optimum
performance and uptime.

With a proud heritage dating back nearly 200 years, Denby is world-famous for its stoneware products, and is fast gaining a reputation for porcelain and china. Passing through 25 pairs of hands before reaching the customer, every Denby piece is unique, and carries the company’s reputation for craftsmanship and quality. Denby’s Derbyshire factory works 24-hours-a-day, so the support facilities on which the company relies have to deliver an equally high level of performance and uptime.

Waste water, clay and debris from pot moulds pass from the manufacturing process into three to four huge tanks, each of which is around 30ft long and contains an estimated 6,000 gallons of water. A pump at one end leads off to a filtration tank, while a mixer at the other end maintains the right consistency to avoid sediment settling on the bottom and clogging up the pump.

Over time, and with round-the-clock operation, there is inevitably some wear on the moving parts of the mixer as debris passes over them. It is therefore critically important to Denby to be able to source any repairs or replacement parts quickly and conveniently, and without compromising production.

This facility is provided by Flygt’s service operation, which repairs and reconditions working units, fitting appropriate spare parts to guarantee that they are restored to their original condition to achieve optimum efficiency and performance. A service exchange scheme is offered to ensure guaranteed availability for critical applications. Customers only pay the cost of any new parts that are required, and can immediately take away a reconditioned unit in exchange for their original one.

In Denby’s case, they call on Flygt’s Nottingham workshop, where Mick Raynes is the supervisor. With 40 years’ service at Flygt, he takes customer satisfaction very seriously: “For regular customers with critical operations, we always aim to have a replacement reconditioned unit ready and waiting on the shelf for when the customer needs it.”

”When we replaced Denby’s Flygt 4650 mixer recently, we had the old one offloaded and the replacement loaded and away in just a few minutes.”

Flygt has 11 workshops nationwide providing a local customer service throughout the UK. Fully equipped with specialised tools and test equipment designed specifically for carrying out Flygt overhauls, they hold strategic stocks to ensure that repairs can be carried out with minimal delay. All repairs are fully tested and certified prior to dispatch, and the whole unit is guaranteed for a 12 month period (not just the parts fitted). Temporary rented units are available in emergency situations to provide added reassurance.
