ITT WWW equipment monitors potential flooding risk at Falkirk PS

Falkirk Council has responsibility for ensuring the pumping stations in Falkirk are working effectively and possible flooding risks are dealt with quickly and efficiently. It is therefore imperative that the council is alerted as soon as potential flooding may become an issue at any of the sites. The council brought in a team from ITT Water & Wastewater UK Ltd, the premier supplier of water and wastewater treatment solutions, to provide a monitoring and control solution using the latest technology.

ITT Water & Wastewater supplied Falkirk Council with a centrally based PC monitoring system in its offices – this replaced the existing system of outstations at every pumping station which sent voice alerts to a phone when flooding was a likely issue.

ITT Water & Wastewater provided the council with a full turn key installation and commissioning of the monitoring and control equipment and thorough training on the system.

Falkirk now has a central repository where the daily operation of the various pumping stations is recorded and logged – including important water levels. This data can then be used for analysis of the system and its operation. The central system now controls the alarm function and sends an SMS text message to the relevant officer on call at that time. Previously, each site was automatically called by telephone when an alarm went off – regardless of which engineers were on site to respond to the potential problem. The new system is much more effective as it ensures the first person to know there maybe a flooding risk is an officer who is on call and therefore, in a position to quickly respond to the issue.

Dorothy Reid from Falkirk Council’s Roads Service is impressed with the new process: “The new system installed by ITT Water & Wastewater is a very effective tool. It allows us to keep regular tabs on potential flooding situations and take appropriate action as quickly as possible.”

Guy Fitzpatrick, Business Development Manager, Monitoring & Control for ITT Water & Wastewater comments on the new system: “We are really pleased with the new monitoring and control system we have installed for Falkirk Council. It provides the customer with up to date information allowing the ability to respond to potential flooding situations as soon as they occur in a quick and effective manner.”
