Head loss calculations based on a specified pipe system is one of the central functions in FLYPS 3.1. The pipe system model used in FLYPS consists of two individual pipes and three common pipes. This allows most pipework configurations to be modeled and losses to be calculated. Branched systems can however not be handled.
Pipe dimensions and pipe material can be chosen from a locally customised database containing standard pipe dimensions along with pre-defined factors for roughness. Pipe dimensions can also, of course, be specified by entering inner diameter and roughness factor. Point losses for discharge connection, 90 deg bend, T-connection, check valve and outlet are also stored in the database. Additional point lossses can be specified separately. FLYPS 3.1 supports both the Colebrook-White and the Hazen-Wiliams loss calculation methods.
If the system design dialog is opened from the Browse screen the system characteristics can also be defined by entering a duty point and number of pumps.
