F-pumps have an open S-shaped impeller with hardened cutting edges. A cutting plate is placed at the inlet. Together with the impeller, it chops up long-fiber materials before such materials can enter the pump. Damage that might be caused by solid objects is prevented, either by a shear pin or by an automatic friction clutch.
